I am Md Khalilur Rahman, I came to this country in February 2008. As a new immigrant, I didn’t get any guidance on how to get a secure job. It was difficult for me to communicate because English was not my first language. Therefore, I started working in a Bengali grocery as a Meat Cutter. Later, I was a dishwasher at an Indian/Bengali Cuisine restaurant. Looking around the kitchen, my interest grew in cooking. Hence, I started learning how to make Biryani and other South Asian Cuisine. Progressively, I became the sous chef and I noticed people were enjoying the food I was making. I was offered to become the executive chef at an Indian/Bengali restaurant in Time Square. The restaurant became well known to the local people and tourists. I started to taste different cuisine all over the city and create recipes to improve the quality of the food.
I realized the quality of the food was very improvised and it was nowhere near the authentic food. Therefore, I went back to Bangladesh to learn the original recipes of Bengali cuisine. I stayed back there for six months to explore different cities taste the food and learn by working in the kitchen. I became very passionate about cooking and it was a dream for me to have my restaurant. After many struggles and hard work, I was able to have lunch at my first restaurant. The community loves the food and shows a tremendous amount of support. Therefore, Khalil Biryani House is committed to giving back to the community.
Since 2017, Khalil Biryani House participates in many community services. We have served free food to the community during the period of pandemic. We support local community clubs to improve the quality of the business. We cater food for many community events such as weddings, food drives, and providing food in the masque. We provide healthy food to the community which has been a blessing to the people who are working hard and they don’t have time to cook food at home. We have built trust from customers and they are satisfied with our service. Khalil Biryani House has got recogni tion for great community service and it has established an outstanding standard of business in the Bengali Community. Khalil Biryani is proudly representing the Bengali community to all the people and it is the inspiration for others to run a successful business. We provided jobs and support to many families that had been affected by the pandemic. We will continue to provide service to the community.
In Conclusion, I was able to create six different corporations to serve the community in less than five years. when I first came to this country, there was no guidance for me. Therefore, I created Khalil’s food foundation which will provide ESL classes, training, and guidance to pursue a better job. As a meat cutter in 2008, getting fresh halal meat was difficult for consumers. Therefore, I created Khalil Supermar ket which brings fresh halal meat from a halal-certified farm. I struggled to find affordable healthy and tasty food because Indian/Bengali restaurants use heavy masala. Therefore, I created Khalil Biryani House and Khalil Halal Chinese which provides various South Asian cuisine that is healthy and hygiene is maintained. Most impor tantly, I created “Biden Biryani” which is one of the most popular dishes served at our restaurant. Khalil Biryani has and always will provide a positive contribution to the community to create a better place in the world.
